{March 21, 2007}   Problems With Mac vs. PC Word

I’ve been having problems with documents that I create in Word on my Mac not opening up or being recognized when I try to open them in Word on a PC. Anybody have any suggestions how to resolve this issue? Help! :)

I’ve just started working on a new personal/professional website using Drupal to create it. It’s got some really great functions and things you can do with it, but I have a lot to explore and learn. I hope to be able to combine all my different sites and blogs into this one portal. I’ll post when I get it up and running.

{March 21, 2007}   OSX

I’ve submitted my list of needed OSX upgrades. Not sure if this is tech mentor, but it’s definitely tech. So I’ll list it here. I’ve also inventoried the iBook labs and put out a note to all staff about usage of the labs.

{March 19, 2007}   New Teacher Blog

Here’s the blog I helped a teacher set up this week

{March 19, 2007}   Current Activities for March

Here are some of the things I have been working on this month:

  1. Added printers and troubleshooting for printers (I seem to be doing this a lot) for several teachers and some of the library computers.
  2. Working on figuring out how to download ArtRage painting program. I was supposed to do my workshop on this tomorrow but it’s not downloading so I’ll have to re-schedule. I wrote to attendee signed up and asked for alternate times/dates available.
  3. I’ve been working on Dreamweaver and trying to perfect the website template I created for the library website.
  4. I still need to email the OSX upgrade list of priorities to IT.
  5. I’ve made some little tiny cheat sheets for the DVD player in the library and for adding printers.
  6. I spent an hour with a kindergarten teacher helping her to set up a class wordpress blog and also showing her how to post her Flickr photos to her new blog.
  7. Helping multiple people with registering for workshops on Conference Day, in My Learning Plan.
  8. Helping several teachers with email issues.
  9. Assisted in getting information for teachers on setting up email addresses for their students. I have their passwords and I have to go in and set up webmail in the more user-friendly interface before they start to use it.
  10. Showed two teachers how to get into Public and save student projects there.
  11. Showed two teachers how to connect to the server and save documents there.
  12. I tried to install software for special ed teacher, but didn’t work. Submitted a track-it.
  13. Continuing to make a list of iBooks that are not working properly. IT says issues with them may be solved when OSX is installed.
  14. We received our new projectors (from last year’s RFP) and we are waiting now for mounting of them.
  15. Submitted multiple track-its, which is my librarian “hat.”
  16. Just submitted my proposal today for my district-wide workshop. I hope to do a workshop on using del.icio.us and blogs for resource sharing.

That’s all I can think of at the moment.

{March 19, 2007}   Information Overload

The ever-changing role of the school librarian with respect to technology and information online, is discussed in this article in Edutopia Magazine (which you can subscribe to for free, if you are a teacher, btw).

{February 28, 2007}   March To Do

Show social worker how to save to the server.

Install software (or troubleshoot) for 6-1-2 teacher.

Add links for K teacher.

Send out staff survey of what tech equipment they have.

Make prioritized list of OSX upgrades that need to be done.

Reschedule the  two workshops that were missed in Jan and Feb.

Begin working on RFP for tech.

Follow progress of projector installation.

Attend Tech Mentor meeting next week.

Explore Camtasia software for creating tutorials.

Make inventory of iBook lab problems to submit to tech dept.

{February 28, 2007}   February Update

Activities I completed in February include the things mentioned in the post below, as well as the following:

  • I set up printers for several teachers and showed a teacher how to use different browsers to improve functionality when using the Internet.
  • I attended an all day Dreamweaver workshop where I created a brand new template for the library website. I learned a great deal more about how Dreamweaver works and was able to create the basis for a new, more user-friendly website. Next I will need to transfer information from the old site, and design the page heirarchy.
  • My workshop was scheduled for a day when we had a snow day. There was no time to reschedule because our vacation was the next day.
  • I also met with Andy Yale to learn about iChat and using the webcam. That was neat :)
